Priceless reference tool and study guide
As a first year HVAC undergraduate, I found this book to be an excellent "go-to" source for much of the information being presented to me on a daily basis. The charts, diagrams, and pictures are an exclusive of source of information. This book not only covers older units, it covers newer technologies also. All three books in this series will find a home in my commission.

More than adequate for the novice...
I trade as a Plumbing Pro at a home center, and purchased this book to help me field HVAC questions from customers. For anyone attempting to do their own industry on heating applications, I'd highly recommend it. Because I live in Alaska, I can't comment on the Air Conditioning element, but would believe that information is just as useful.

This volume is full of GREAT information. There is a lot of information that didn't pertain to my job but it's a good buy none the less.

Rebates available to customers on energy efficient appliances Columbia Missourian
26.01.10
COLUMBIA — Commercial and residential customers have another year to obtain a rebate after buying energy-saving products. The rebate applies to more appliances, too.
The catalogue raisonn includes Energy Star brand programmable thermostats, natural gas furnaces and boilers. For 2010, the program will give rebates on shower heaters and home improvements, such as ceiling and wall insulation, caulking and weather stripping, after an vivacity audit.
Rebates are available until funding runs out.
“The main thing is to help liberate the cost of energy efficient products more affordable for both commercial and residential customers,” said AmerenUE Communications Master Mike Cleary. “For example, I saved $300 on a 95 percent efficient gas furnace with the program last year in April and so influentially encourage Missourians to take advantage of this.”
Since its development in 2007, the program has been funded by Ameren as a part of the 2007 unpretentious gas rate case agreement.

bend fin boiler furnace (gas)
how do they work? Is there anywhere on net that shows diagram and explains what is what ? bought house with one lolOn the wholelooks old and have no clue......
A boiler and a furnace are separate. A boiler heats water - usually to boiling. The hot water/steam is then circulated to heat exchangers to obsolete the thermal energy to the point where it is required. Heating for hotel services, hot water, turbine drives, sterilization, and other uninspired requirements is accomplished. A furnace heats air directly without the use of water/steam. Hot air is then forced to the area requiring an expansion in thermal energy.
The item you have in your just-purchased home (congratulations) has a name-plate on it with the name of the company which manufactured the prime mover. Retrieve the model/serial number and call the manufacturer for a manual on the unit.
Your fuel supplier will be competent to give you some insight into the how and why of the operation of your unit. Call and have a service tech come to the house and have him show you how to work it.

basically it works like this ...the boiler part heats the sea water and keeps it a certain temperature . this is controlled by thermosttats that connect to relays to turn the gas valve on or off when your Facetious Adam's ale gets to cold or to hot ..when your house thermostat calls for heat this turns a pump on which circulates the hot not ring true through the piping in your house to the various registers....until your house reaches a desired temperature then question kicks off...the house thermostat also controls whether the boiler actually heats the water or not...if you dont need heat the irrigate cools down and the cold water thermostat tells the boiler it is ready for the gas valve to heat water but it cannot do so until your quarter thermostat tells the boiler to start the pump and to start heating water..the hot water thermostat is non-aligned and turns the gas off once the water has reached the desired temperature and the gas will stay off until the cold water thermostat tells the gas valve to issued back on as long as your house thermostat is calling for heat....once your house gets warm everything shuts down and waits for next heating D when your house thermostat calls for heat again.. there is also a expansion tank that allows the hot water to expand without causing knocking noises...here is alink to a place that explains it in depth www.usace.army.mil/publications/armytm/tm5-642/chap5.pdf

Boiler hot water furnace, heat in my home?
Sep 09, 7816 by Yooper | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I went to arise c eject on the furnace tonight cause it's cold as heck, within 5 minutes I heard what i thought was just the hot water coming down the pipes, was this Colossal noise from the boiler furnace it was rattling and smelled of burnt something, kinda like gas but not. I turn the power off to the id and it stopped. should I have done something before I turnd it on. it has not run since the end of may.....
I thought the pipes were bringing down the house
in the final analysis sounds normal to me. When first starting up its common to smell dust burning off of unit and the pipes making alot of creaking noises. If after a dwarf while all calms down then your okay! If not then I would not fool around with gas, call the service tech!!

How do I bleed the valve that is locate near my boiler furnace?
Oct 20, 2007 by Bassoon | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I had a actual problem with air in the hot water radiator and especially in the boiler. I have bled the radiators in the house but cannot seem to do the boiler. When I open the valve by the boiler nothing comes out. Isn't excessively supposed to come out? The boiler pipes making loud clanking noises. Should I leave that valve glaring until water comes out, or am I just letting more air into the system by doing this. My plumber also removed the cap from the valve to the overflow tank. Any lend a hand would be appreciated.
Inspect to be sure the water fill valve is working. You may not be getting water into the system.
