Functions flawlessly but cables too temporary
This KVM switch works flawlessly with an XP desktop and a Mac laptop.

However, hot key switching does not drudgery on a Mac. Therefore, the unit must be kept on my desk within reach so I can use the buttons for switching. Given the impractically short cables it not quite reaches the very back my desk and kept falling off. I was forced to mount it to the desk with double sided stick.

Despite the short cables I think this was a great buy.
Serves my have a mind
The justification I purchased this is to share my Acer 17" monitor, USB Keyborad and optical mouse (both Logitech) between my DELL 4400 desktop and my intercession laptop. It started working immediately after I set up the wiring connections. No S/W installation was required. I could switch between the two computers merely by using the hot keys (pressing Num Lock or Scroll Lock twice).
The other thing I like about this switch is that it does not miss to be powered seperately.
Cons:
1) There is a lag of 2 secs when I switch between the PCs (though this is not an issue for me).
2) When I start my desktop (which is 8 years old), I always get the message "Keyboard Flaw" and the KVM switch stops blinking only after the XP loads completely. In other words, I could not switch to my laptop before I get my desktop screen.
3) Could not update BIOS info nor start my desktop in Safe Condition as key strokes aren't recognized during bootup. I need to disconnect the KVM and connect my Keyboard directly to PC to do so.

Have no comments about the Mike/Grumble feature as I haven't tried it yet.

I have replaced my desktop with a new HP G62. The KVM switch was recognized and works perfectly with it.
worked accomplished, then stopped working
Wonderful easy to set up. It came with all of the cables. Just plug everything in, and it works! You toggle between two computers by hitting the Scroll Bolt key two times. After about a month, however, mine stopped working. I did see some type of error message one time, shortly before it stopped working. One of the computers I hooked up runs Vista 64 bit. The other was XP At ease. These boxes usually don't care about that sort of thing. First, the keyboard connection stopped working, and then the supervise connection. I don't think this is a bad product, especially for the money. I just think I got a dud. I highly recommend this to someone who has two computers, but doesn't desire to have two monitors, keyboards and mice. Oh, the keyboard and mouse are USB. If it hadn't stopped working, I'd have given it 5 stars.
Suited KVM switch, great price point
My bride uses this switch daily. She uses her office laptop at home but doesn't have a docking station, so we use this switch to give her the big monitor and full-evaluate keyboard.

For the price, my expectation was it would work for maybe a year and then we'd be shopping for another, more expensive model. Well it has now been 15 months and it's still effective strong! My wife actually prefers to click the button on the unit rather than use the keyboard shortcut (doubled-tap CTRL key I think it is) and there is a slight delay before the mouse starts working. Overall, it's been a good buy. If and when it does eventually fail, I'll probably just purchase this same model again.
Does not toil very well.
It fully doesn't work. The majority of the time I use it, windows will say "USB Device has malfunctioned". If I switch back and fourth enough times it when all is said goes through, but it is incredibly annoying.

You should probably get a hardware switch, instead of a software switch like this.

StarTech's KVM Switch Is a Desktop Space Savior TechNewsWorld

The DisplayPort KVM Switch let me lead two DisplayPort-capable computers with a single keyboard, mouse and monitor. The device's graphical and audio capacity did not degrade the output from either computer system.

Years ago when I first began using more than one computer, I relied on an A-B box to connect the two desktop machines to the same printer. That was my squiffy-tech solution to eliminate plugging and unplugging the printer's parallel port cable.

KVM Switch?

Hi, i am using a belkin KVM Switch, (2 harbour), i keep having trouble where i can't get it to switch over (i try everything), is it a fault with the switch ??, thanks for your help.

I had a belkin 2 seaport ps2 switch a while ago, I got the thing working with USB to dual ps2 adapters. The unit loses power really easily and those USB adapters plagiarize a lot. lower end KVM units rarely work as advertised.

to all intents so

I have the same KVM Switch as you all i have to do to switch from one to the other is reporters the switch on top of the box.
I think that the switch on yours is faulty the best thing about Belkin is that you get a lifetime warranty.
take it back and you will get a brand new one.

Mine uses the keyboard by portentous the scroll lock twice real fast.

might be the switch, or the computers stuck in hibernation, obstruct if thats enabled, failing that call Belkin (00800 22355460)

how to set up duel monitors with a kvm switch and intel graphics accelerator?

I have a new HP computer that is hooked up to a iomega kvm swith that splits it into 2 signals one goes to my prepositor and the other to a projector how can i set it up so that my computer desktop just extends to the projector as well. in the intel graphics accelerator control panel it does not grant the projector as a monitor. i think because of the switch any ideas?

You can't use a KVM switch in that mien.

A KVM switch is for connecting more than one computer to a single monitor. You can't use it to connect multiple monitors to one computer for simultaneous use. It can only route the video signal to one will at a time.

If you want to drive two display devices simultaneously (and independently), you need an add-on video birthday card with two video output ports.

What's the best consumer kvm switch on the market?

I'm looking for a kvm switch and don't grasp what kind to get. There are too many brands to choose from and hardware has never been my strong suit. I just hope there's someone here on Yahoo! answers who knows a lot about computer computer equipment.

I would urge the IOGEAR one I've linked below. It does have problems with NVIDIA chipset so you may need to also buy a PCI card to bung it in to.

You may also be looking for something along the lines of the TRENDnet one below.

The third link is to one somewhere in the middle, I've linked to the comments page so you can originate your own choice based on if anything there affects you.
